The dark day yesterday referred to a horrible thing that happened in the next town over from us. A man killed his wife, his two children, and then himself. I did not know them, but many of my friends did. They seemed to be a normal suburban family. We are stunned and saddened, and grappling with how to explan such a thing to our children. I wish I didn't have to tell them at all, but I do, because I know that they will hear about it at school.
It's too soon for me to take any lessons from this tragedy. I'm just sad.

I loved reading your blog - it is amazing how awful situations such as this make you think. It also makes us a little more aware of how lucky we are.
