Now, I don't want to complain, but being a parent can be quite trying sometimes. I've just come back from dropping two surly, bickering children off at camp--the camp that they insisted they didn't want to go to today, the same camp that they rave about each day at pick up, the very camp that I've paid what I consider a not-that-small fortune for them to attend. So I'm feeling a little bitter. I'm wishing that I had a little more of the near-saintly patience and endless supply of loving kindness that I sense in Berlin's Whimsy and Soulemama, but right now, all I can really summon is a powerful poor-me feeling.
Then I spot the drawings that Sweet Willa made for me yesterday and I am flooded with loving kindness once again:
adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It speaks well of Adrienne that her first impulse is to pull her own hair; mine is to pull the kids'.
By the way, you don't hear those morning complaints about Camp Mama, do you!
I encourage you to keep a stash of these sorts of things in the car and around the house - like a first aid kit, or handi-wipes, you never know when they will absolutely save your life

Wait until they are teenagers. You ain't seen nothing yet. And you won't get any sweet drawings either but, in the end, they give you grandchildren so that's good.

Thanks for commenting over at Spring Chick, it's always nice to discover new blogs! I'm with you on the patience thing. Surely Soulemama has lost her temper once or twice...

Ah, Willa. I just love that kid (as I do all your kids) - but there is something about Sweet Willa that is particularly delightful - and it has nothing to do with the fact that her middle name is Kate. I mean, Khaite.

I recently had a new mother friend tell me that she found my peaceful demeanor with my kids to be an inspiration that stayed with her for months. As she was telling me this, I wondered how inspired she would be if she had heard me just 5 minutes earlier when I was shrieking at them like a shrew! I just kept that to myself...

I am so there with you. Some days I just want to pull my hair out and then just as I have a good grip (on my hair) ... one of the boys does something funny or sweet. And speaking of sweet - those little poems are keepers for sure!

It is all worth it, isn't it. Those pictures are delicious.

I hear you. There are definately days that only something as sweet as that drawing is the only thing keeping them alive!
